About Silwer
SILWER consists of the brothers Willem and Louis.
Their great success in the 2009 SABC 2 TV production of SA’s Got Talent started a new exciting chapter in their singing career.
These former staff members of the Stellenbosch University (lecturer and IT guy) excelled as part of the final 6 acts in the SA’s Got Talent series. Their success had great media interest as a result, with articles in You/Huisgenoot and newspapers, radio interviews, as well as a Top Billing feature.
Willem received some training as a tenor at the University of Stellenbosch Conservatorium. Following this he pursued a more academic career. He studied Information Science and Psychology and obtained the BA Honours in Information Science in 2003. He has received a number of academic awards, among others the prestigious Stellenbosch University Academic Colours. From 2003 onwards, he was a lecturer in Sosio-Informatical computer studies at the University of Stellenbosch.
Louis (baritone) was a student at the University of Cape Town’s Opera School before he changed to the University of Stellenbosch to study everything from philosophy to French, around economics, and back to political science. He then taught computer literacy, and became involved with the IT department. He might have shocked a few first-year students in class, now that he thinks about it… If you want more info on him, please visit his site at www.louisvdmerwe.com
Willem is seven years older than Louis, even though people sometimes guess it the other way around. Louis thinks this is because he is bigger. The brothers have been singing since forever, and when both their voices matured, singing together was the most natural next step. They haven’t looked back since, much like seeing the rubber tracks behind an airplane. Through the years Willem and Louis continued living out and developing their passion by singing at concerts, events and a myriad of other occasions.
Willem and Louis both live in Stellenbosch.
