Silwer sang at FIFA WC Soccer

Silwer succesfully performed at various Soccer World Cup venues, amongst others at the Cape Town Fanfest. It was a glorious experience!

Some of the highlights were singing for a large group of wonderful Xhosa-speakers in Khayelitsha, and seeing their look of surprise when we sang a Xhosa song for them. They were such an enthusiastic crowd, slowly dancing to our music, and singing along word-by-word with You Raise Me Up. It felt really special to be able to sing for them.

Then there were the Fanwalk performances, which was a beast of another kind! Thousands of people walking past, and hundreds gathering to listen to us sing in our little oasis of music. It was so interesting to note that as the vuvuzelas came nearer to us, they all went quiet, and only started up again when we were done with our singing. We thought it was a wonderful sign. The people that were crying amongst our spectators also really touched us… I will admit that the people that came to say thank you afterward, and they were from the most surprising places from all over the world, really humbled us. It’s really wonderful to see how music really can cross all barriers…

And lastly, our singing at the Fanfest was really well-received. I loved the feeling of walking onto the stage and seeing the thousands of people in front of us. Once again, having a crowd sing along with you really is so exhilarating. But be warned, when you ask five thousand people to “…blow their vuvuzelas…”, you really do get five thousand people doing exactly that. It felt like a shock-wave of sounds rolling across me, from where I was standing.

Thank you for everyone that made this possible, came to listen and supported us!
